Disaster Preparedness for Pets

Be prepared. When disaster strikes, do you have what you need for your pets?
When Hurricane Katrina struck, so many pets were left behind to fend for themselves. People were not prepared themselves let alone their pets. Disasters come in many forms. Hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, severe storms, fires, flooding and terrorist attacks. Don't get caught off guard yourself or your pets. See the resources listed here to find what you need to prepare and plan for disaster.

Be Prepared for Disaster

Your pets depend on it.

We don't always know ahead of time when a disaster will strike. Be it natural or otherwise. I'm guilty of saying, "Oh, I need to get that first aid kit and disaster kit together." But I haven't. Well we need to stop our procrastination. Our lives and our Pet's lives depend on it. When a disaster strikes, don't leave your pet to fend for itself. Read the listed articles here on what you and your pet will need to survive.

The best way to protect your family from the effects of a disaster is to have a disaster plan. If you are a pet owner, that plan must include your pets. Being prepared can save their lives.

This is a really useful lens. We had an earthquake swarm here in Nevada which went on for close to 2 months so we were and still are prepared, cat and all, for a fast exit. Before that we never would have thought about it and I don't think most people do.

Excellent lens. I cannot conceive of leaving my pets behind! We'd share Vienna sausage and the leaves on the ground for sleeping if we had to! But, this is a really nice resource for us pet lovers to wanting to be able to do a lot better care-taking than that. :)

Thanks for the good ideas. It was heartbreaking to see the pets stranded during Katrina. Living in Florida, we have to think about these things ahead of time.
